We have travelled. From staging a comeback to learning about failure. We have learnt from this season of the podcast that we are always embarking on a journey with its successes, losses, pains and pleasures. In this episode, we think about journeys. What is a journey and does it have a destination? What lessons are to be learnt if there are at all? Come with us as we speak to three academic citizens who explore journeys in three different ways from movement as knowledge, to the ethics of flying and climate change and to the elusiveness of nature and the wild.

A/Professor Harmony Signaporia is a Professor of Culture and Communication at MICA. She is the author of the book I am the Widow: An Intellectual Biography of Behramji Malabari (Orient Blackswan 2018). Her interests are in ethnomusicology, gender and performativity and the role of cultural artefacts in the emplacement of identities in exile.

Dr Henri-Count Evans is a journalism and mass communication lecturer at the University of Eswatini. His interests are climate change communication and communication for sustainable social change. He is also interested in the interlinks between social media studies and data analysis.

Dr Gabriella Leighton is a postdoctoral fellow at Rhodes University. She is the local coordinator for the Urban Caracal Project where she explores the use of stable isotope analysis to explore caracal foraging ecology and potential marine subsidies. Her interests are urban ecology, ecotoxicology and carnivore conservation.

This episode is the last episode of Season 6. The podcast will resume in 2023 with exciting projects and show discussions.

The Academic Citizen is funded by the South African Research Chair in Science Communication at Stellenbosch University for Season 6.
